HEPA-Filtered Ventilation for Cleanroom Facility

Penmann recently delivered a bespoke factory ventilation solution to support a cleanroom environment within a major UK food manufacturing site. The project was initiated in response to a requirement for high-capacity, filtered airflow into a cleanroom facility as part of the client’s wider operational objectives. With stringent hygiene and filtration demands, Penmann was tasked with providing a high-performance system that met both air volume and air quality specifications, delivered and commissioned within a tight schedule.

Meeting the Challenge of Cleanroom Air Supply

The client required an airflow of 20,000m³/h, filtered to H13 HEPA standards. Following a detailed site survey, Penmann designed a temporary system centred around a 150kW air handling unit (AHU) capable of delivering up to 12,000m³/h of filtered air. This solution allowed the client to meet immediate requirements while remaining scalable for future phases of the project. To achieve optimal airflow distribution into the cleanroom (designated L5 and L6), the AHU was strategically located on the mezzanine floor of Unit 25. From this location, galvanised ductwork was routed through the facility wall, with flexible ducting introduced to guide airflow down into the cleanroom environment. The air was then supplied into the cleanroom via ceiling-mounted diffuser grilles, maintaining controlled air movement and ensuring uniform coverage throughout the space.

Coordinated Installation and Commissioning

Penmann provided a dedicated team to carry out the installation of the galvanised and flexible ductwork. Once mechanical installation was complete, Penmann engineers fully commissioned the air handling system to ensure performance targets were achieved and handed the equipment over to the client for daily operation. The design of the temporary system allowed for full compliance with cleanroom ventilation standards, while minimising disruption to ongoing operations within the building. This collaborative, flexible approach reflects Penmann’s wider expertise in deploying rapid-response air solutions for critical environments.

Clean, Filtered Air—Delivered with Precision

Cleanroom environments, particularly in food processing and packaging, demand exceptional control of airborne particles. By filtering supply air to H13 HEPA levels, the temporary system provided peace of mind for the client’s QA and compliance teams, supporting continued safe production while permanent systems were upgraded or expanded. This project also highlights Penmann’s experience in delivering temporary HVAC and ventilation systems for time-sensitive or transitional needs—offering end-to-end support from design and installation to testing and commissioning.

Supporting Cleanroom Facilities Across the UK

As manufacturers navigate expansion, refurbishment, or system downtime, Penmann’s temporary HVAC and filtration solutions are helping businesses maintain compliance and minimise disruption. Whether the need is driven by seasonal pressures, facility upgrades, or emergency failures, our team can rapidly mobilise high-spec air handling units with integrated filtration to support clean air delivery.
