Lynda Thorp joins Penmann as Project Support Engineer

Penmann - Lynda Thorp Project Support Engineer

Lynda talks about the variety within her new role, her natural adaptability and how she “loves a spreadsheet!”

We welcome the latest professional to the Penmann Team – Lynda Thorp – who joined in late 2021 as Project Support Engineer.

Lynda brings with her over 30 years’ experience within the HVAC field, both commercial and industrial sectors, where she has enjoyed a variety of roles. It is this aspect of her background that is particularly key to this newly created position at Penmann.

Lynda reports in directly to MD, Damian Kirwin, who instantly recognised that she could support the busy design team in countless ways such as: preparing design calculations, procurement, supporting engineers on site by providing information they need promptly (archive information, commissioning guidelines/ technical data), estimating, AutoCAD and service & maintenance coordination.

Lynda is qualified in Building Services to HNC level, with a City & Guilds in AutoCAD 3D.

Lynda told us:

“My varied skillset ideally positions me to provide support to the busy Project Team where they need it most. I’ve worked at developing transferable skill sets and my strengths have already been recognised during the first couple of months of joining the business.

I am inspired by knowing that the role actually knows few boundaries and that the culture of the workplace will allow me to develop it and make it my own. Give me a spreadsheet to work on and I’m more than happy!

I asked my husband to comment on what I am good at as he used to work for me as a supplier at one point, and then again for me when we were both at the same Company!

He stated (biased obviously 😊) that I am good at collating data, a good communicator and that I always foster great relationships with suppliers; and that I’m highly principled because I never gave him an advantage over other suppliers, so he had to compete with his best price, like it or not

He kindly says that I am highly motivated to do any job well as I’m flexible and versatile. I seem also to be quite adaptable as evidenced by my personal life. I moved from the Midlands to Yorkshire (my family name has been Yorkshire based since 1066 apparently, so I can legitimately call myself a Yorkshire woman), also with work directions and helping bring up a nine year old step daughter at the age of 21 (I’m a lot older now and she’s presented us with a granddaughter), and making a new life up here, as well as making lifelong best friends through common interests, ie RHS course & AutoCAD 3D course.

Outside of work, life is very busy with two rugby playing teenagers. As a family we enjoy travel and have been known to find interesting experiences whilst away, including Alpaca walking and Coasteering. When I can find the time, I like to collect new skills, with courses taken in cooking, silver jewellery making and blacksmithing, amongst others.

Penmann is a great place to be – a growing, caring business with values that align firmly with my own. I’m looking forward to playing my part in the success”.
